Canine Physical Rehabilitation with Practical Training
This course is designed to enhance the small animal, physical rehabilitation skills of veterinary and para-veterinary professionals. This course is best suited to appropriately qualified veterinary hospital staff, who work in clinics where surgeries are performed and where the use of these treatment modalities can be used, to improve the surgical outcomes for the hospital patients. This course is also designed to teach the participants on how they can assist their patients and clients in the conservative management of a number of orthopaedic and neurological conditions. Some clients cannot afford surgery, and not all patients are “good” surgical patients. In a world where clients are connected to the internet, they are looking to their veterinarians for alternatives and assistance, which will have a positive impact on their pet’s quality of life. Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses and Animal Health Technicians who are registered with the South African Veterinary Council

Qualification:
SAVC CPD accredited: Earn 62 SAVC CPD points (applicable to veterinarians, veterinary physiotherapists, veterinary nurses and animal health technicians).
Duration:
Delegates will have twelve months to complete the theory element of the training and hand in their case studies, however the practical will take place on 7 pre-determined days over a 3 month period

This course consists of 16 online theory modules, with 4 shorter, bonus lectures and 7 practical in-person (onsite) training days.
All the course material is made available upon registration and delegates are able to work through the material at their own pace. However, it is strongly advised that participants should work through the theory pertaining to the practical sessions, in advance of attending the practical sessions. To complete the course delegates are required to submit three case studies before the end of the course.

The course is SAVC CPD Accredited. 62 CPD points are awarded on completion of the course. To receive all 62 CPD points participants must complete all the online modules (built in completion tracking), attend ALL the practical sessions and submit and pass three (3) case studies.

Practical Sessions – 2026 Practical Sessions will be hosted in GAUTENG (Each practical session is worth 6 CPD points)
Practical sessions take place over Saturdays and Sundays and one Monday at Practical sessions will take place at Mooikloof and Benoni – final venue to be advised ahead of time.
Attendance is compulsory in order to complete the course. Learning is hands-on. Every participant will get at least one patient to work on, on each of the practical days and will also learn through watching other participants work with their patients, and through discussions led by Dr Tanya Grantham.
- Practical Day: Manual Therapy Sunday 21 June 2026 (Module 1, 3 and Module 14 Plus Bonus 1 & 4 )
- Practical Day 2: Basics of Electrotherapy (TENS, EMS, Photobiomodulation, Shockwave Therapy and Therapeutic Ultrasound. Sunday 16 August 2026 (Module 15 and Module 16)
- Practical Day 3: Gait Analysis and Lameness Sunday 30 August 2026. (Module 1 and 2 and Bonus 2 and 5)
- Practical Day 4: Hind Limb Conditions Sunday 11 October 2026(Module 4, 8, 9 and 11 PLUS Bonus 5 )
- Practical Day 5: Forelimb Conditions Sunday 8 November 2026 (Module 5 and 10 PLUS Bonus 5)

If we consider human medicine, today it is standard practice that following an injury or surgery we are required to see a human Physiotherapist. As athletes we regularly consult with a team of professionals including trainers, coaches, Biokineticists and Physiotherapists to help with work and exercise related injuries, to improve form, reduce injury and to enhance performance. Veterinary Physiotherapists or Animal Physical Rehabilitation practitioners are able to assist animal athletes, working dogs and horses in much the same way to ensure that they are able to perform at their peak, for longer, by reducing the risk of injury.
